How do I position the pit
Camera to be where I want it? If I remove the track.cam file from my folder and dat, the default position is perfect but when I make my own cam file in camedit.exe I can't replicate it. I need to fully understand what the X, y and z are.

I use 3DSimEd to load the track's main 3do file.  In this example hocken70.3do

You see the X Y Z axis lines in red, green and yellow.

Rotating the image to get the main straight running left-to-right to helps me better visualize location, you can then position the cursor cross in prospective Pit Lane camera positions.

The X Y Z values are at the bottom center of the screen.  You can see the X Y Z values change as you move the cursor cross.  In this example I placed the cursor in the grandstands opposite the pits at one corner.  You only need the X and Y values.

I also use GPL TrackKam editor for camera work.  The Pit Lane camera settings are all the way at the bottom.
You can see my annotations to give you an example of settings to use.  Adjusting values is a trial-and-error many, many iterations process.
You save your setting changes to the camera file and start GPL.  Have a look where you've set things ... then, shut down and go back to editing values again.

Hope this helps to get you started.

That's really helpful. I don't have 3dSimEd. Is there an alternative way to locate those X,y coordinates?

You can use a small 3do that you can see in 3doEd ( not an srb ) as a marker for you pit cam cords.

The Boreham pitlane runs east to west (positive x to negative x), starting at (638, 111, 0) and ending at (453, 111, 0).  Some vals to fiddle with:

Cam after the pits looking back:
x 392, y 91, z 3
yaw 10, pitch 0, roll 0
fov 30, unk1 0, unk2 -0.125

Cam before the pits looking forward:
x 690, y 91, z 3
yaw 165, pitch 0, roll 0
fov 30, unk1 0, unk2 -0.125
