It has a big variety of formats and among them you find 3DS which should be MAX type.

Seems somewhat daft if Autodesk have made their latest products non-backwards compatible though, or alternatively that they don't have some sort of converter to let you open legacy files on the latest versions.
For doing CAD at work and talking to different CAD systems that other collaborators seem to use, STEP or IGES seem to work quite well as intermediate formats between different packages if 3dsimed happened to offer either of those?
